Robert L. Grech

Robert L. Grech is a registered Osteopath and Physiotherapist with extensive experience in musculoskeletal rehabilitation and preventive healthcare. He is the founder and clinical director of Osteopathy Malta, a leading clinic for osteopathy and physiotherapy services licensed by the Health Standards Directorate. As the first registered osteopath in Malta, Robert has played a pivotal role in establishing the osteopathic profession in the country, setting high clinical standards and promoting evidence-based, patient-centred care.

He graduated with a B.Sc. (Hons.) in Physiotherapy from the University of Malta in 2005, where his dissertation focused on “Arch Height and Repetitive Strain Injuries.” In 2010, he completed his B.Sc. (Hons.) in Osteopathy from the University of Brighton (UK) through the London School of Osteopathy, combining intensive clinical training and reflective practice in a busy London outpatient clinic. Continuing his academic journey, he obtained a Master’s Degree (MSc) in Osteopathy from the Metropolia University of Applied Sciences in Helsinki, Finland in 2023, with his thesis entitled “Perceptions of Experienced Osteopaths on Interprofessional Communication.”

Robert’s early professional experience includes rotations at St. Luke’s General Hospital in Malta, where he worked in neurological, respiratory and acute medical rehabilitation. Between 2008 and 2012, he practiced in several multidisciplinary clinics across London, including Penn Clinic (Middlesex), North End Practice (Kentish Town) and The Great Health Company (Islington), as well as serving as a visiting physiotherapist at Pentonville HM Prison. Upon returning to Malta in 2012, he became the first to offer formal osteopathic services in the country, leading to the establishment of Osteopathy Malta in 2015.

As founder and principal clinician, Robert oversees all aspects of the clinic’s operation, from clinical standards and recruitment to patient management and quality assurance. His work emphasizes the integration of osteopathy and physiotherapy, using a holistic and preventive approach that focuses on restoring functional movement and long-term health.

Robert is also the Founder and President of the Malta Association of Osteopaths (MAO), representing the interests of registered osteopaths nationwide. Through this role, he has established strong ties with Osteopathy Europe, where he currently serves as a Board Member. His participation at the European level promotes professional recognition, patient safety, and the harmonization of osteopathic education and practice standards across the EU.

In recognition of his academic excellence, Robert received the Best Oral Presentation Award in Orthopaedics, Traumatology and Rehabilitation at the 5th European Sports Medicine Congress in Prague (2007), for his research on “Arch Height and Repetitive Strain Injuries.”

Fluent in English, Maltese, and Italian, with intermediate Spanish, Robert combines international clinical experience with a deep understanding of local healthcare dynamics. Outside of his professional life, he is a former national middle-distance runner and an avid enthusiast of kayaking, trail running, hiking, and woodworking, reflecting his passion for movement, balance, and wellbeing.

Born on August 25, 1982, Robert continues to contribute actively to the advancement of osteopathic healthcare in Malta and Europe, bridging the gap between clinical expertise, academic research, and public health advocacy.
